A Poem to Memorize

“Poetry is one of the forms of the beautiful that is accessible to children”.  Harp and Laurel Wreath

Why encourage your child to memorize poetry?

Memorizing poetry develops in children an appreciation for the patterns and sounds of beautiful words, so that they may gain confidence in putting words together.  That confidence is second nature to young minds steeped in poetry.

Every month we share a poem to print out, enjoy, and memorize with your child.   Here is this month’s selection.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Hopped upon the window sill.
Cocked his shining eye and said:
“Ain’t you ‘shamed, you sleepy-head!”
