Bear Says Thanks

Author:  Karma Wilson
Illustrator:  Jane Chapman

Bear is lonely and bored. He misses his friends.

“I could make a big dinner!
       A feast I could share.
But he looks through his cupboard,
       and the cupboard is bare.”

But his friends know just what to do.  Soon Mouse shows up with a huckleberry pie, the hare with a big batch of muffins, Badger with a string of fish from the old fishin’ hole and on it goes…  Each friend is most gratefully thanked by Bear, but he soon begins to “mutter and stutter and wear a big frown”,  because he has brought nothing to share.  Well, perhaps in his mind, but not in the hearts and minds of Bear’s friends.  His friends hug him tight, telling him that what he has to share is every bit as special and important as the food they have brought. Can you guess what it could be?

Even young children will understand that it’s okay for friends to have different gifts and we can say “Thanks” to each other for sharing many different things.

Fireflies Presents: S is for SPRING

Fireflies Presents celebrates the imagination and creativity of what it means to be a child.

SisforSpringFeatureImage

We are excited to present our newest script S is for Spring! Our script is filled with original content and illustrations to help spark your family on their creative journey.

The current script S is for Spring is available for purchase HERE.

Fireflies Presents is designed for one or more children between the ages of 3 – 8, the younger the child(ren) the more parent involvement is needed in the area of “performance” – but either way, very little preparation or practice is required. Non-readers can take center stage as easily as young readers. We kept it simple…promise!

Each Fireflies Presents has a read-along recommendation. This month’s script was inspired by Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. After enjoying this beautiful story with your family we invite you to host your very own Fireflies Presents!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Seed packet
  • Flower (fresh or fake)
  • Bag of dirt
  • Spray bottle of water
  • Blue felt to represent water
  • Green felt to represent grass
  • Sun (just an ordinary circle cut out of construction paper)
  • OR you can use painted wood cut-outs of a tree, flower, sun, etc (You can find these at your local craft store for an easy TMAS prompt!)

Choose 3-5 items that will inspire your child to create a simple story. Parents, your child will love creating with you, so take a turn at the storytelling too! Keep your stories simple to set the pace for your little one. They will cherish these memories you’re making together!
