Rocket Writes a Story

Author and Illustrator   Tad Hills

cover_Rocket Writes a Story_coverRocket loves books and he wants to make his own, but he can’t think of a story. Encouraged by the little yellow bird to look closely at the world around him for inspiration, Rocket sets out on a journey. Along the way he discovers small details that he has never noticed before, a timid baby owl who becomes his friend, and an idea for a story.

Declared a best children’s book of the year by Amazon, Barnes & Noble, School Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly, this book is sure to appeal to kids, parents, teachers, and librarians.

This week we are celebrating another “First Day of School”!  (Where did the summer go? )  We begin the school year with a new favorite of ours – one that needs to be added to every home library.  You will fall in love with Rocket and his gentle friends.  Oh, and along the way, you might even be inspired to find your own delightful words and write your own story!

1.  You can read words.  What else can you do with them?  (write and spell them)

2.  Rocket found his words in the world around him.  Where might you find some interesting words?

3.  Why do you think the yellow bird was such a good teacher?  (kind, patient, encouraging)
